One of the best events London holds is the Mayors Thames Festival, It’s an annual festival held on the banks of the Thames, people from all over London travel into the centre to be a part of this amazing event. It’s activities are spread over a weekend ending in a beautiful display of fireworks over the river. All sorts of events are strewn over the zones, of which there are four

  • Westminster Bridge to Waterloo Bridge (Zone One)
  • Waterloo Bridge to Blackfriars Bridge
  • Blackfriars Bridge to London Bridge
  • London Bridge to Tower Bridge

Every Zone holds a Festival Market, this is where you can buy food/drink. You will also come across a huge range of stalls from independent vendors selling the best of their produce. You will no doubt find some souvenirs to take home with you, you might even find Christmas presents!, if you like what you see at the stalls remember to pick up a card from them if they have one!

There are so many events in the festival I can’t name all of them, you will probably be able to see most of them on your walk by the waterside. The Night Carnival is one you should watch out for, The roads will be cleared to make way for the parade of eye popping entertainment, dancers, floats, bands..what more could you possibly want?

The Feast on the Bridge is another must see, try your hand at apple bobbing, sit down at the many tables next to other visitors and feast!

If you want to really get a taste of London then the Mayor’s Thames festival is perfect, Experience culture like you’ve never experienced it before! So many countries are represented in the festival that you won’t know where to look first.

Get a chance at watching some of the finest and freshest new acts on the scene. Last year Diversity (winners of Britain’s Got Talent ) made an appearance and danced for the crowds, this year the Korean dancers from Break Out hit the Thames as part of the All Eyes on Korea section of the festival.

Maybe you’re into photography? How about the chance to win a Olympus Camera, or for runners up a School of Photographic Imaging photography course? All you need to do is bring your camera down to Southbank and shoot pictures, send your best ones in and you have a chance of winning!

I’ve experienced the festival first hand, there’s so much to do and see that you’ll be busy throughout the whole day, It’s very kid friendly and while you’re there you can pop into the Tate or take a ride on the London Eye!
